Introduction

We started planning this holiday back in February, the main motivation being to see our friends Barbara and Peter in Greece.

This means a flight into Kalamata, their nearest airport, but the options after that are many. We could do something similar to our trip two years ago and go across to Italy.

Rome is always worth a visit, Vera and I have both been separately, but not together. And there are plenty of other cities that could be part of our itinerary. Or, being in Greece, why not explore this country?

Neither of us had been to Athens, which for a city with so many thousands of years of history seems a bit remiss. So Athens is part of the journey, and we can get a bus from Kalamata bus station

The bus passes Corinth, and after consultation with Barbara we add Ancient Corinth to our travel plans.

From Athens I investigated the options of ferries to some of the Greek islands, and this is an attractive option. But why not continue eastwards to Istanbul, another great city of the ancient world.

So that's our final itinerary: Crisokelleria; Ancient Corinth, Athens and Istanbul. I will add further pages to this account as events unfold, but that's it for the moment
